Potential unlocked

We know young people already have what it takes. We are here to help them acknowledge it.

Emerging Roots HTX exists to create the conditions where young people discover that who they are right now is more than enough to lead, create, and transform their community.

The ROOTS Framework

Our work is grounded in ROOTS - the principles that guide how we build community, expand opportunity, and sustain long-term impact.

R

Rootedness

Our curriculum, partnerships, and learning opportunities reflect the diversity and richness of the young people we serve.

O

Ownership

We understand the profound responsibility of being part of these young people’s lives. We take ownership of how we show up, what we teach and the culture we create. We empower youth to own their stories, ideas, and futures with confidence and agency.

O

Openness

We keep it real with our students. We create a safe space where we learn alongside them, stay open to their feedback, and share our own personal journeys.

T

Togetherness

We build collaboratively, strengthening a village where youth grow alongside peers, mentors, and alumni.

S

Sustainability

We are committed to long-term ecosystems of support that extend beyond high school and evolve with our community.

Our Inaugural Year, in One Snapshot

In their inaugural year, Emerging Roots served over 300 young people across Houston's East End through entrepreneurship programming rooted in identity, storytelling, and economic agency. Five students completed their flagship Summer Collective, developing business concepts and social media campaigns that culminated in a community showcase. Three students were paired with industry mentors for year-round support, gaining confidence in networking and planning for their futures. Across school workshops and community partnerships, they reached more than 200 additional students with entrepreneurship exposure. Ninety percent of participants are first-generation college students, and two program graduates received full-tuition college scholarships. At approximately one thousand dollars per student, their work is powered by grassroots effort and community partnerships that believe young people from the East End deserve access to opportunity, mentorship, and the chance to own their stories.

Invest in a Young Leader's Future

Your support goes directly to our students. It costs approximately $1,000 to support one young person through our Summer Collective - covering meals, materials, transportation, and mentorship. Beyond summer, your contribution helps us reach hundreds of East End students through year-round workshops in schools and community spaces. Last year, we ran entirely on grassroots effort. Every dollar donated went toward something real - a meal, a media kit, a learning opportunity. We're building a village, and every contribution helps us go further. Ready to invest in Houston's next generation of leaders? Emerging Roots is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit. All contributions are tax deductible.
